Social Networking What Do You Think??

I was reading a blog the other day. The topic was social networking. You know facebook, twitter, etc, etc. They weren't saying those things were bad just that they have started to replace our actual face to face interactions a little. I thought about it a lot and realized that I miss having a phone conversation to re-connect with a long lost friend or colleague from a past job. Of course now we don't answer the phone because we don't know the number or the long lost friend is obviously not programmed into our blackberry or iphone.
The reason for all this......I reconnected with a friend from college the other night and we actually TALKED on the phone. It was wonderful. I heard the inflection in his voice and sensed his emotion when we were talking about our lives now and the things we had been through in the past several years. I was able to hear the laughter not a LOL. I was renewed and happy and excited to share with my husband what our old friend was up to these days.
I have instant messaged and twittered and facebooked and text messaged myself into sore fingers and I will certainly continue to do all these things. But I know they will not replace the SPOKEN word for me and hopefully my kids will still continue to converse with their friends and learn those essential social skills that social networking is starting to take away.
What do you think? Leave me a comment or better yet do your own social networking post.

With busy schedules, being able to communicate whenever I can (and get a response whenever I can) is most appreciated.

HOWEVER, I do miss the simplicity of phone calls and real letters at times. And it is really nice to hear the inflection in a phone conversation - so many misunderstandings with just words... or abbreviations!

i agree! i like being able to converse on fb...but when i really want to talk to someone...I use the phone...like today...I really wanted to CALL you but my hubby was on the phone...you were on fb so I was able to chat a minute....Rhett and i have already made the decision that our kids will not have their own phones until older I hope that stays true! later gater!

I miss this too which is why I make it a point to talk to friends on the phone, meet for girls night out or lunches and I still write handwritten letters and thank you notes. It is very important to me that not everything I communicate come from a technical device. Besides, I am NOT nearly as funny via text, blog or email as I am in person!LOL(hee hee)! Great post:)

I VERY much enjoy talking to you on the phone or face to face. Sometimes you can't do that with everyone you know. Can't take up all my minutes on my phone, or they don't have texting...little things like that so I connect through blogs or facebook...Although I would like to get rid of facebook and somehow still keep in touch with some of those friends. You can't beat a LIVE voice though. I do wish there was more of that still.
I know exactly what you are talking about. I have a lot of internet friends and even old friends I like to keep in touch with but life is so crazy calling and keeping up with all of them is impossible, but my family and closest friends will never get boxed! I have the handful of close friends that I call all the time and have good relationships with. Unfortunately I can't keep up with everyone so some of them get boxed... But I still care for them.

Great post - I am always up for a conversation about technology. Just a tip - to make it easy for people to pop into your BlogFrog forum to discuss, you can link to the forum right from your post! I do this all the time and it makes it easy for people to jump over and reply.

Great thoughts. I have to admit that I actually don't enjoy talking on the phone. Not sure why...but I have grown to be this way. I think it's because with kdis I feel like i'm out of control when I'm on the phone and they get into trouble & I can't do much about it! Thanks for stopping by...I'm going to add you to my blogroll.

I like to think of Twitter and Facebook etc. as extra ways to communicate - sure they don't replace face-to-face or voice-to-voice but without them I wouldn't feel as in touch with some of me friends. And they've helped me reconnect with friends I haven't spoken to for years. Now ... tweeting to each other over the dinner table might be the limit!

I completely agree. The art of listening and responding is somewhat lost. I communicate so much better in writing, so I appreciate all the networking. But there's something special about hearing the laugh, instead of reading the LOL.

I hear ya'.

How to get Urine/Sweat stains out of your Mattress

If you have kids you have pee stains I know it.  If you don't lucky you or you are a liar and in denial.  I have pee stains on more than one mattress.  I also have sweat stains on pillows because well I sweat a.lot .  It's a gift I know. I digress. Anyway I have tried many different ways to get urine/pee out of mattresses and I have been very unsuccessful so I did a google search and what do you know?  Another mom had pee stains too.  So I borrowed her recipe and it totally worked so I am sharing it with you. All you need are these few house-hold ingredients and a spray bottle.  I bought a really expensive one (NOT) I used one I had for my kids hair.  It worked great. You will need: 3 Tablespoons Baking Soda 8 ounces Hydrogen peroxide 1 drop dish soap Mix together well and use right away. My mom discovered that if it is not mixed well the baking soda will clog the sprayer.  You also can't store this apparently it doesn't last in the bottle and it is no longe

Master Bedroom Makeover Board and Batten

I highly recommend a few items although you don't HAVE to have them it just makes this project go so much faster.  I bought a pancake compressor with three nail guns included saved me on this project and a miter saw.  I bought both from Home Depot and they didn't pay me to say that it is just where I happen to shop.  I actually had this all measured out and went to Home Depot and they cut the mdf primed boards for me.  However I later purchased the miter saw and was then able to cut things right here at my house.  The nail gun I used is a 16 gauge gun that can shoot nails up to 3 inches.  I used a 2.5 inch nail to cover the thickness of the board and wall. Ok so I recommend deciding how you want your boards spaced first and measure and mark on the wall where you want them.  I tried to do every 16 inches because that is how far apart my studs were but then I realized my wall wasn't an even length and so I have some that look a little off on the ends.  Lesson learned
