A Quick Poll

So I have been reading a LOT lately about how dark backgrounds with light text are difficult to read for many blog readers.  So I changed my blog.  I am not sure that I LOVE it but if you would leave a comment and let me know if this is a little friendlier to your eyes I would appreciate the feedback.  Thanks!

Don't worry about offending me I can take corrective criticism I am asking for it here.

Post edit:
So I took your advice and lightened up the grey.  I tried white background and it just wasn't as calming to me.  So hope you all like my new look.  Thanks for the input I appreciate it!

I like it... I liked your old one too! Do you not like premade backgrounds like from http://www.thecutestblogontheblock.com/???

I like simplicity. I am a "less is more" kind of person busy blogs make me nervous so I don't want mine to be too busy.

I have to agree about the simple is best look.

I have been on blogs that use dark backgrounds and vibrant text. I think some combinatons are very hard to read while paler backgrounds seem more peaceful.

We followed the pale advice this week when we changed our blog and so far everyone has been very complimentary.

I like your new look!
Can you lighten your background a bit more...
Just a suggestion.

Your old one was black/white, right? I don't think it was particularly hard to read. I've come across others that have hot pink writing or something and I just have to close it out because it hurts my eyes.

Anyhow, I like this. It's easy on the eyes. I agree with Tony, maybe lighten the background just a tad. ;)

I would say if you are going to go black on grey, try a slightly lighter shade of gray.

I seriously get dizzy with light font on a dark background. I never read long posts on those pages....so I definitely like this alternative better. :)

Your new combo (black on gray) is easier for ME to read; the red is still a little fuzzy, but my eyeballs are older, too. There is room to lighten up the gray, which may make the red easier. Or not!

Ethel and I fooled with our own blog background/font colors until we were completely confused and ended up changing the template 3 times over the first few weeks until we were satisfied enough. I don't know that either of us LOVES it, but we just prefer to expend our limited minutes and brain cells on something else!

While I've seen a lot of CUTE templates, all of ours are plain because we have so much going on in the sidebars. When we have a chance, we'll be figuring out some scrolling features for awards, badges, etc. to declutter ourselves. I need to do that at home, too! Sheesh. Anyway, your layout is easy, and it's calming to be here :)

I had one of your posts and the picture post in the dock to comment on the other day when Safari froze (again), and I never got back to what was waiting there for attention. I loved the pictures of your kids - they're so photogenic, and the photographer obviously knows what he's doing!

Okay, back to work....

I like the dark and light...but...I guess it depends on the dark and light combo...I don't know...I guess it depends on the layout and such...I'm into scrapbooky type blogs, to soo, I don't think I'm much help...and I'm rambling...much love!

i like the black on the grey, but i want to put colored swirlies on the sides! lol! :)
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the new background color! It is perfect...
For my next idea, how about making your header picture color? It would really "pop" if you had color contrasting your background and dark font...

How to get Urine/Sweat stains out of your Mattress

If you have kids you have pee stains I know it.  If you don't lucky you or you are a liar and in denial.  I have pee stains on more than one mattress.  I also have sweat stains on pillows because well I sweat a.lot .  It's a gift I know. I digress. Anyway I have tried many different ways to get urine/pee out of mattresses and I have been very unsuccessful so I did a google search and what do you know?  Another mom had pee stains too.  So I borrowed her recipe and it totally worked so I am sharing it with you. All you need are these few house-hold ingredients and a spray bottle.  I bought a really expensive one (NOT) I used one I had for my kids hair.  It worked great. You will need: 3 Tablespoons Baking Soda 8 ounces Hydrogen peroxide 1 drop dish soap Mix together well and use right away. My mom discovered that if it is not mixed well the baking soda will clog the sprayer.  You also can't store this apparently it doesn't last in the bottle and it is no longe

Master Bedroom Makeover Board and Batten

I highly recommend a few items although you don't HAVE to have them it just makes this project go so much faster.  I bought a pancake compressor with three nail guns included saved me on this project and a miter saw.  I bought both from Home Depot and they didn't pay me to say that it is just where I happen to shop.  I actually had this all measured out and went to Home Depot and they cut the mdf primed boards for me.  However I later purchased the miter saw and was then able to cut things right here at my house.  The nail gun I used is a 16 gauge gun that can shoot nails up to 3 inches.  I used a 2.5 inch nail to cover the thickness of the board and wall. Ok so I recommend deciding how you want your boards spaced first and measure and mark on the wall where you want them.  I tried to do every 16 inches because that is how far apart my studs were but then I realized my wall wasn't an even length and so I have some that look a little off on the ends.  Lesson learned
